Flakey Salt

About the Recipe

Flakey Salt is a type of finishing salt which means it is added to the dish after cooking.
It is used to provide a salty, crispy texture to the dish and is great for finishing touches.
Flakey salt trades for around Rs 690 per kg.
This is a better alternative, takes time and technique but works like magic.

Ingredients

  • Salt: 160 gm

  • Water: 500 ml

Preparation

Step 1

Dissolve 160gm salt in 500ml of water. Mix well.


Step 2

Take a sieve and place a kitchen towel on it. Pass this salty water through it to filter out any impurities.


Step 3

Make a double-boiler. Heat some water in a saucepan and place the bowl with salty water above it. Let it heat properly.


Step 4

After a few minutes, you will see crystals floating. Take them out using a fine mesh sieve. Repeat this process as and when you see crystals floating.


Step 5

Place them on a kitchen towel and let them dry properly. Your flakey salt it ready. Store it indefinitely.
