Ingredients

  • Melted Ghee: 1 cup

  • Atta/Whole Wheat Flour: 1 cup

  • Sugar: 1.2 cup + 2 tbsp

  • Water: 2 cups

Preparation

Step 1

Take a kadai, add the melted ghee on low to medium flame. After 20 seconds, once it's warm, add the atta and start mixing. There should be no lumps. Keep the flame low to medium and cook for a few minutes.

Step 2

Once you start getting the aroma and the colour changes to peanut butter colour, add the sugar and mix well. Colour is indicative of how you want the halwa to be. Lighter or darker will slightly change the appearance and taste a bit. Well-roasted Halwa has a depth of flavour.

Step 3

Then, add the water and quickly start mixing. Be careful of the violent splashes at this time. Add water only when you feel that everything is done. It will halt further roasting. Once the halwa comes together, cook for only 2-3 minutes and turn off the flame. You will see the ghee separating which is an indicator of a good halwa. Your Atte ka Halwa is ready which when offered to God becomes Kadah Prasad. Enjoy!
