About the Recipe
Khichdi is a dish that connects us all. It is found in every home in every state which truly unites India. It is present in each and every corner of India be it East, West, North or South: Bhoger Khichuri in Bengal, as Vaghareli Khichdi in Gujarat, as Mong Khetchir in Kashmir or as as Bisi Bele Bath in Karnataka.
Mong Ketchir is a North Indian version of Khichdi all the way from Kashmir.
It is so easy to make, looks really simple yet turns out absolutely delicious.

Ingredients
Rice: 2 cups
Whole Moong Dal (Green): 1 cup
Hing: 1/2 tsp
Bay Leaf: 1 pc
Cumin: 1 tsp
Cloves: 4 pc
Dalchini/Cinnamon: 1 inch
Turmeric Powder: 1 tsp
Ginger Powder: 1/2 tsp
Salt to taste
Water: 4 cups
Preparation
Step 1
Wash the moong dal 3-4 times and soak for 1 hour. Properly wash the rice as well.
Step 2
In a cooker, add mustard oil, hing, whole spices and cook for a minute. Add soaked moong dal and the rice. Stir and cook for 2 minutes. Rice should start looking like a crystal.
Step 3
Add turmeric powder, ginger powder and salt. Mix well, add 4 cups water and pressure cook it for 4 whistles, on high flame for the first whistle and on medium-low flame for the rest 3 whistles. Let it de-pressurise naturally.
Step 4
Your Mong Ketchir is ready. Simple yet so delicious. Enjoy!
