About the Recipe

For best results, use oblong-shaped tomatoes and cook them at low temperature. This recipe will give you a freshly homemade pizza sauce which tastes so much better than store bought sauces. Use it for pizza, pasta, sandwiches and so much more!

Ingredients

  • Bombay/Hybrid Tomato: 1 kg

  • Olive Oil: 2 tbsp

  • Onion: 1 medium

  • Garlic: 1 tbsp

  • Salt, Pepper (as per taste)

  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder: 1 tsp (Optional)

  • Basil Leaves

  • Oregano: 1 tsp

  • Sugar: ½ tsp

  • Vinegar: ½ tsp

Preparation

Step 1

Make slits on the top and bottom of the tomatoes. Submerge in boiling water for 2 minutes. You will see that the skin has started to rip open. Take them out and immediately transfer to ice cold water. This process is called blanching.

Step 2

Remove the skin and eye of the tomatoes and start mushing them with your hands.

Step 3

Take a saucepot, add olive oil, onion and salt. Once translucent, add garlic. Saute.

Step 4

Add the mushed tomatoes and cook for 12-15 mins on the lowest flame. Add salt, pepper, kashmiri chilli powder (optional) and basil leaves.

Step 5

When cooking is done, add oregano, sugar and vinegar. Mix well. Your pizza sauce is ready. You can easily store it for a week. Use it for pizza, pasta or sandwiches. Enjoy!
