About the Recipe

This recipe walks you through the steps of making a vegetarian version of Shakshuka. Generally, poached eggs are used for this recipe. So to substitute that, I have made similar looking vegetarian eggs using paneer. The final dish turned out super amazing. You can definitely give this a try!

Ingredients

  • Paneer

  • Turmeric Powder: 1/2 tsp (egg) + 1/2 tsp (tadka)

  • Oil: 1 tbsp

  • Cumin: 1 tsp

  • Onion: 1 pc

  • Ginger: 1 tbsp

  • Garlic: 1 tbsp

  • Capsicum: 1 pc

  • Tomato: 2 pc

  • Kashmiri Chilli Powder: 2 tsp

  • Red Chilli Powder: 1 tsp

  • Coriander Powder: 1 tbsp

  • Water

  • Cheese

  • Coriander Leaves

Preparation

Step 1

Preparation of Veg Eggs:

Grate paneer in a bowl and start beating it lightly till it all comes together. Take out a portion of the grated paneer and mix some turmeric powder in it. Form small round balls. This will become the yolk of the egg.

Now, take a portion of the white paneer mix, roll it flat, put the round yellow yolk in the centre and form a ball with the white one. There you have it, vegetarian eggs. When you cut it in the centre, it will come out as a real egg.

Step 2

Take a pan, add oil, cumin, chopped onions and cook till translucent. Add ginger, garlic and capsicum. Cook. Add chopped tomatoes along with the spices (mentioned in the ingredients list). Add some water, mix well and let it cook.

Step 3

Once done, cut the eggs in the centre and place it on the prepared tadka. Grate some cheese over it, top with coriander leaves and your dish is ready.
